Technical Product Owner

Preston | Hybrid – 3 days onsite | Up to £75,000 + Benefits

The Opportunity

We’re partnering with a large international travel technology organisation looking for an experienced Technical Product Owner to join its growing technology function.

This is a genuinely technical Product Owner position sitting at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Architecture and the wider business.

You’ll take complex business and product requirements and turn them into clearly defined, technically viable work for engineering teams, while retaining ownership of priorities, outcomes and stakeholder alignment.

This isn’t a Project Manager role, nor are they looking for a developer. They need someone who understands how modern software products are built and can confidently operate between technical and non-technical teams.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own and manage product backlogs for complex technology products and initiatives.
  • Translate business requirements and PRDs into clear epics, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Run discovery sessions and workshops with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Work closely with software engineers, architects and technical teams to shape viable solutions.
  • Understand technical dependencies, constraints and architectural considerations.
  • Prioritise requirements based on business value, technical feasibility and wider product objectives.
  • Manage competing requirements and expectations across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ensure engineering teams understand the what and why, while collaborating with them on technical delivery.
  • Support products throughout the SDLC, from discovery and requirements through development and release.
  • Drive clarity between Product, Technology and the wider organisation.

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have 5+ years’ experience as a Technical Product Owner, Product Owner or technically focused Business Analyst, with strong evidence of operating alongside software engineering teams.

You’ll be comfortable:

  • Turning complex requirements into engineering-ready backlogs and user stories.
  • Running stakeholder workshops and technical discovery sessions.
  • Working directly with developers, architects and engineering leadership.
  • Understanding software architecture, APIs, integrations, dependencies and the wider software development lifecycle.
  • Challenging requirements and asking the right technical and commercial questions.
  • Managing senior stakeholders with different priorities.
  • Making decisions and trade-offs rather than simply documenting requirements.
  • Working within complex, enterprise-scale technology environments.

You do not need to be a software developer, but you should be technically credible enough to hold detailed conversations with engineers and architects.

What makes this interesting?

This is an opportunity to work within a large-scale international travel technology environment where technology is fundamental to the customer and business experience.

You’ll have exposure to complex products, multiple stakeholder groups and substantial engineering initiatives, with the opportunity to have genuine ownership rather than simply coordinating delivery.

They’re looking for somebody who enjoys being close to engineering, close to the product and accountable for getting the right things built.
