Lead Developer
Daniel James Resourcing
Lead from the front on a major cloud-modernisation programme, while staying genuinely hands-on with the code.
Take ownership of technical direction across modern .NET, AWS and event-driven systems within a large-scale enterprise product environment. Lead and mentor talented engineers while helping transform complex legacy platforms into scalable, cloud-native products.
Lead Developer – C#/.NET & AWS
Manchester / Leeds | Hybrid – 2 days onsite | Up to £85,000 + Bonus & Benefits
The Opportunity
We’re partnering with a major global technology-led organisation undergoing a significant Product Engineering transformation.
The business operates complex, business-critical software platforms at considerable scale and is investing heavily in modernising its technology estate — moving away from legacy .NET applications towards a modern, cloud-native AWS ecosystem.
They’re now looking for a Lead Developer who can combine strong technical leadership with hands-on engineering. This isn’t a role where you’ll step away from the code; you’ll lead by example, helping engineers solve difficult problems while influencing architecture, standards and technical direction.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead, mentor and support a team of Software Engineers within a collaborative product environment.
- Remain hands-on with C#/.NET, contributing production code and tackling complex engineering challenges.
- Help modernise legacy .NET applications into cloud-native services and microservices.
- Shape technical designs, architecture decisions and engineering standards.
- Build scalable REST APIs and event-driven systems.
- Work extensively with AWS and modern cloud-native engineering patterns.
- Lead code reviews and champion clean, maintainable and secure software.
- Work closely with Product, Architecture, QA and wider engineering teams.
- Improve engineering practices across automated testing, CI/CD and continuous delivery.
- Mentor engineers and help raise technical capability across the team.
- Take ownership of software from initial design through production and continuous improvement.
Technology
You’ll be working across a modern and evolving stack including:
C# | .NET / .NET Core | AWS | Docker | Terraform | React | TypeScript | SQL | PostgreSQL | DynamoDB | REST APIs | Microservices | Event-Driven Architecture | SNS/SQS | EventBridge | GitHub Actions | CI/CD
The underlying environment is strongly aligned to modern .NET, AWS, Docker and event-driven architecture.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be an experienced Lead Developer, Technical Lead or Senior Software Engineer ready to take greater technical ownership.
We’re particularly interested in engineers with:
- Strong commercial C#/.NET / .NET Core experience.
- Genuine hands-on experience with AWS.
- Experience designing and delivering cloud-native applications.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging.
- Docker and modern containerised environments.
- CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience modernising legacy applications or migrating workloads into the cloud.
- Strong engineering fundamentals around SOLID, clean code, testing and maintainability.
- Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing code and influencing technical decisions.
- The communication skills to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
React, TypeScript, Terraform, SQL/NoSQL and automated testing experience would all be advantageous.
Why join?
This is an opportunity to take a meaningful technical leadership position within a large-scale enterprise Product Engineering transformation.
Rather than simply maintaining established systems, you’ll help determine what the next generation of the platform looks like — modernising legacy technology, influencing architecture and helping engineers adopt modern cloud and software-development practices.
You’ll get the scope of a Lead position while remaining close to the technology and continuing to build.
Package
Salary: Up to £85,000 depending on experience
Bonus: Up to 20%
Location: Manchester or Leeds
Hybrid: 2 days per week onsite
Position: Permanent, Lead Developer
This is best suited to someone who doesn’t want their next Lead role to mean meetings all day and no coding — you’ll have genuine technical influence while remaining an engineer at heart.
