Specialist technology hires supporting the transformation of a global travel platform.
Situation
dnata Travel Group was undertaking a major technology transformation across its global travel business.
Years of growth had created a complex technology environment, with different airline and travel systems requiring individual integrations. Bringing a new partner onto the platform could take days or even weeks, while increasing customer demand meant the existing approach was becoming increasingly difficult to scale.
dnata set out to fundamentally modernise this environment, creating a cloud-based platform capable of connecting multiple travel providers, processing huge volumes of real-time data and delivering a significantly better digital booking experience.
Task
djr was engaged to help dnata build the specialist technology and delivery capability required to support this period of transformation.
The programme required a combination of technical, product and delivery expertise capable of working across modern cloud architecture, complex integrations and customer-facing digital products.

The objective was clear:

Action
We worked closely with dnata’s technology and product leadership to understand its transformation roadmap, technical environment and the capability required across different projects and workstreams.
We built permanent and contract talent pipelines across Engineering, Product and Technology Delivery, allowing dnata to access specialist capability as requirements evolved.
This supported a wider move towards modern engineering practices and a cloud-native architecture incorporating technologies including Azure, .NET Core, Kubernetes, Kafka, microservices and Azure DevOps.
Rather than approaching requirements in isolation, we developed an understanding of dnata’s wider technology landscape and the people required to move complex initiatives from architecture and product definition through engineering, testing and delivery.
Result
During this period, dnata successfully created a highly scalable travel platform capable of integrating multiple providers and dramatically improving the speed and scale of its digital services.
New partner onboarding was reduced from days or weeks to under an hour, while customers could move from comparing around 40–100 flight options to thousands from a single search.
The platform scaled to handle more than 52 million search requests every month, providing an architecture that could ultimately be extended beyond flights into hotels, cars, transfers and other travel products.
