30 specialist contractors. Multiple European markets. One global technology programme.
Situation
VML Luxembourg was supporting the delivery of WPP Open, a major global commerce and technology transformation programme.
The scale and pace of the programme created an immediate capability challenge. VML needed to rapidly build specialist engineering and technology teams across Europe, while retaining the flexibility to scale capability as requirements evolved.
Rather than relying on a traditional consultancy model, they wanted a more agile and commercially efficient way of accessing specialist talent – without compromising on the quality of people delivering the programme.
Task
djr was engaged to build a contract recruitment and delivery solution capable of providing the specialist technical capability VML needed.
This wasn’t simply about supplying individual contractors.
We needed to understand the programme, its roadmap and upcoming requirements, access specialist talent across multiple European markets and create a reliable talent pipeline capable of scaling alongside delivery.
The objective was clear:
Give VML access to exceptional specialist capability at the pace the programme demanded – without the cost and rigidity of a traditional consultancy model.
Action
We worked closely with VML’s leadership and technical teams to understand the programme roadmap, individual workstreams and the specialist capability required across each stage of delivery.
From there, we built and managed dedicated contractor pipelines across Europe, allowing us to respond quickly as new requirements emerged.
Our involvement covered the entire contractor lifecycle — from requirement qualification, market mapping and sourcing through to interviews, onboarding, extensions and ongoing contractor management.
Over the course of the engagement, djr deployed 30 specialist contractors into the programme, enabling VML to build a flexible, scalable technology team while maintaining control of how and where capability was deployed.
Result
VML gained access to 30 specialist contractors and the ability to rapidly scale its delivery capability as programme requirements changed.
By building the team through individually selected specialist contractors rather than engaging an equivalent consultancy-led delivery team, the model saved VML millions in potential consultancy costs while maintaining access to the specialist technical expertise required to deliver a major global programme.
The engagement developed from individual hiring requirements into a significant long-term delivery partnership, with djr supporting VML across multiple requirements and European markets.
